Besides working with Belfire Press and The New Bedlam Project, various anthology projects and my own writing, I have decided to return to freelance editing and design , on a case-by-case electronic contract basis.
Editing Services
I will edit in any genre. I enjoy reading in all of them, even YA and the occasional children’s novel. I simply enjoy the written word in all its forms.
I’ll also edit any length of project, from 500 words to 500,000 – as long as enough time is allowed.
Potential clients must state specifically what type of edit they are looking for:
» Substantive is a full-on content edit, including proofing for spelling, word usage, placement, grammar, punctuation and minor research to verify facts, if necessary. I first read the manuscript once, edit the file using MS Word with Track Changes and Comment functions used, then go over it one more time before saving the file separately, accepting all changes and proofing to verify changes will work, and that I haven’t missed something. If it all checks out, I send the edited file to the author for verification and their acceptance/rejection of suggested changes.
» Proofing is a once-over of already edited material, scanning for any anomalies with spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. No fact checking.
Fees are in US funds. Fees up to $50.00 must be paid upon contract agreement. Everything over $50.00 must be paid 50% up-front, 50% upon completion of project, via Paypal only. I am willing to make concessions on methods of payment, however if paying by check or money order, the entire fee must be paid, and there is a three week holding period while the payment clears. I now charge $45.00 US for any NSF check (thanks to one company, I now have bank charges for each and every NSF check I receive, and I must cover these). Any NSF problem through Paypal is handled by that company, I believe.

125,001-200,000 – $450.00
200,001 and up – $500.00 + $5.00/1000 words

75,001-125,000 – $175.00
125,001-200,000 – $250.00
200,001 and up – $300.00 + $1.00/1000 words

Design Services
Individual rates below reflect up to three hours of work. Everything over three hours will be charged an hourly fee (listed at the bottom of the page), pro-rated for actual time used.
As of October 20th, 2009 – all new and existing accounts will have each new job invoiced for half-payment up front, and will have a descriptive contract. I will no longer do work without contract or down payment. Only those accounts completed and paid in full will be displayed and promoted in the portfolio.
Where necessary, image licensing fees are included for basic web or cover use only. Any extraneous licensing fees will be billed to the client at cost.
