Changes

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

You’ll have to tell me how you like the new, Yule-y look for the blog. Day after New Years, it’s coming down and going back to normal… Poor old Poe up there is absolutely disgusted with me, I’m sure. ;) Week after next, I’ll be making some changes to my old blog (More Than One Me) in preparation for a project the girls and I are going to be embarking on come January 1st. I didn’t design the theme that’s going up there, but I like it a hella lot more than my own. Maybe.

I’m dreadfully behind in a lot of stuff, so I hope folks will just bear with me while I dig through the piles of…everything. The girls and I are trying to get more stuff shifted from the house to the landfill, thrift shops or family members. The living room is nearly clear of stuff, although there is the bookcase to finish up… *shudder* There’s more crap on there than books, and anyone that’s seen my seven foot monster of a unit has seen the books packed so tightly they’re barely loose enough to pull out. I’m seriously considering retiring those books to a storage bin, and using it to stash my growing collection of horror. But… that’s a project for after Christmas.

Our new tree should be on the way any day now, and one thing we’re trying to do is find a place to put it where the monsters won’t get it every time our backs are turned or our eyes are closed. I don’t know what we’re going to do, exactly, but I will not let the cats destroy it, nor will I go without it this year. Hmmm… Well, anyway, I’ll post pics once it’s all set up. ;)

I think I’m done with shopping, except for the stocking stuff, and a few odds n ends for the grove folks. Mother is just going to have to be satisfied with what she’s getting, because it took me well over a month of digging, then warring through five different auctions before I found something similar with a buy now tag. I can’t say what it is, but if you can figure out what classic novel my name came from, and the movie based on said novel… I have a piece of memorabilia from the cast. Or will have, if it ever arrives. :-/

Anyhoo, earlier tonight my baby brother stopped by a certain store nearby where he works, and picked up Rhia’s present for me. Care’s has been sold out, but that’s okay, I got her something even better today. Teehee!

So, now on to the changes. This weekend, Care is staying home instead of going to her dad’s (Sugar can’t go there with her back as it is, and with her over-attachment to Care, I don’t think it’s a good idea to leave her here to worry herself when she’s already over-stressed) and we’re going to get things done-final shopping, charity stockings stuffed and delivered, tidying, maybe some wrapping-but mostly we’re going to work out a schedule for household chores, activities and computer time.

Yeah, their other uncle gave them a computer for their birthday, but it still sits at my mother’s, unfinished. ’cause being unemployed and having nothing better to do than finish it is well… like work or something. >:( So we’re still on the one. Obviously I’m here all day and late at night, and they get the evenings. They both need time on the computer, although Care is generally more understanding about giving Rhia extra time, and herself less – she’s not as interested in the amount of stuff Rhia is, and would rather stick her nose in a book anyway.

I’ve got a giant desk calendar from Staples that I actually hung on the wall instead of putting flat somewhere. There’s enough room on each day to put a chore for each of us, any appointments we may have, plus we’re going to start planning our dinner meals well ahead of time, and that’s going up there, too.

Organization and health are my keywords for 2010. And for both, there’s going to need to be a lot of changes, for all three of us.

:)

I will NOT become my mother. Right?

This gets long and rambly, so.. most of it is behind a cut.

The girls and I got into a rather large fight last week.

Care caught her dog doing something she shouldn’t have been, startled her when she went to scold her, and Sugar jumped. She either jumped wrong, or landed wrong – either way, she ended up aggravating her back or hip, again.

I got mad right quickly, and even though I knew Care was upset, I yelled at her. In the nearly three years we’ve had Sugar, she’s become far more a part of the family than just being one of the dogs. My immediate thought when I heard her crying was “oh my god, we’re going to have to put her down.” We’ve been through this before, and we don’t have the kind of money it would take to fix it, if Sugar was really badly hurt. We’d have to put her down. Sugar is far more than just a dog. She’s Care’s best friend, and Care needs to have that something that she can trust and love, because her life has taught her trusting and loving end in pain and rejection. Sad, but true.

Anyway, I overreacted and said things I wish I hadn’t. No amount of apologies can take that back, I know from personal experience …not that mother ever apologized for the things she’d say. I heard my mother come out of my mouth. And I just left.

The rest of this is after the cut. (more…)

Heinie Flu

I know, I know, H1N1. Still, when they first started referring to it as H1N1 in the news, one of the baseball coaches called it heinie, and it stuck. We won’t know until Monday if that’s what we’ve got (and Care is the only one that’s been tested officially) but meanwhile, we’re all scratchy, grouchy and really rather sleepy. ;)

So, I’m quite far behind with NaNo, and I don’t know if I can make it up, considering I have two anthologies and a novel in edits right now. I’ve done the front and back for Mr. The Dunwoody Sir’s cover and while it’s no Empire cover (DAMN! That was a fine, fine cover!!!) it’s pretty darn good.

I did take a break last night to work on the front for Dead Bells.

It’s the font, maybe. Or the current amount of space between top and bottom (but there will be something going there…) but I’m not sure I like it. Hit the comments and let me know what you think. :)

Back to the NaNo for an hour before I dive into edits. I’d hug you, but I’d probably make you sick.

hmmm…

c’mere… >;-)
